The Opportunity:
We are seeking a Portfolio Manager to join our Business Fields Portfolio Management organization. The Portfolio Manager of the Ortho Portfolio Review Process will provide visibility, management and processes which enable the strategic risk/return balance and delivery of a robust Business Field Portfolio consisting of short, medium and long-term profitable projects. This individual will be a strategic partner for Business Fields, Product Management R&D and Regional leaders to ensure strategic direction is set, customer and business needs are understood and jointly agreed priorities are reflected in the Business Field pipeline. In partnership with the Head of Portfolio Management, this individual will drive the Business Field project selection and prioritization processes to balance annual and lifetime funding requirements and resources to drive Revenue and EBITDA growth. The Portfolio Manager will indirectly lead portfolio team supporting all Business Fields and portfolio analytics and reviews; lead the portfolio tool training, develop and implement improvements on current product development process, implementation and ongoing support & maintenance; collaborate with finance to understand Business Field project spending requirements and annual planning cycles. This person will be the primary liaison between Business Fields, regions and portfolio management office to foster optimized portfolio decision-making aligned with Ortho s Corporate Strategy. This position will be located in Rochester, NY, Raritan, NJ or Waltham, MA.


The Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the Head of Portfolio Management, will manage the planning, implementation, communication and continuous improvement of Business Field portfolio analytics and prioritization process aligned with Ortho s strategic priorities.
Manage, align, communicate and train on continuous improvement of new product development process.
Manage the in-process and launched product Key Performance Indicator (KPI) goals setting, dashboard reporting & management and monthly business field communication of KPIs and metrics.
Under the direction of the Head of Portfolio Management, identify and develop new, creative ways to view the end-to-end portfolio that will demonstrate Ortho s value. Utilize internal and external (industry-proven) portfolio management resources to improve Ortho s Portfolio Review Process.
Support Senior Leaders using customer, market and R&D analytics to enable optimized decision-making. Provide post-launch analytics comparing performance to business case estimates and utilize information to improve in-process R&D projects during monthly business field portfolio reviews.
Closely collaborate with Business Fields project management teams (PMT) to enable successful progression and execution of the development projects from Pre-Phase 0 through Phase 4 of the product development process
Educate business field leaders on portfolio optimization methodology and background.
Train project management and Business Field organizations on product development processes and tools.
Travel to other Ortho sites to promote collaboration and foster relationships to better decision-making in the portfolio development and review process. Collaborate with all stakeholders to derive and communicate actionable insights and influence management actions (globally and regionally).
Assist in special projects, business field reporting and communication to senior leadership.
Under the direction of the Head of Portfolio Management, identify, improve on tools for better resource planning, portfolio analysis and project management.
Mentor, train, coach and develop peers and subordinates to build a strong portfolio management team.
Perform other work related duties as assigned.

The Individual:
Requires a bachelor s degree in business or finance. Focus on strategic planning, decision analysis or management consulting preferred. Master s degree preferred.
Requires 8 or more years of experience in project management, strategic planning, finance, product management and/or business development.
Understanding of expected cash flow modeling, economic value measures, and other types of analytical modeling (e.g. NPV, IRR, Monte Carlo simulation, decision tree analysis, multi-attribute analysis, etc.)
Advanced Microsoft Excel, forecasting, budgeting and decision analysis skills required.
Strong analytical capabilities, including quantitative and qualitative assessment skills, insight generation and critical thinking skills.
Working Knowledge of Six Sigma, Green Belt Certification, Project Management Professional Certification preferred,
Experience developing, implementing and leading gated R&D development processes or other business processes to foster streamlined processes and rapid decision-making.
Proven leadership and influencing skills, and ability to work in a matrixed organization.
Must have significant experience solving business problems and developing and presenting fact-based recommendations.
Ability to manage multiple assignments and changing priorities.
Ability to interface and build credibility at all levels of the company.
Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
Good conflict resolution and problem solving skills.
Exceptional oral and written communication and presentation skills.
Self-initiator, results driven and action & detail oriented.
