Corporate Risk helps all Wells Fargo businesses identify and manage risk. We focus on three key risk areas: credit risk, operational risk and market risk. We help our management and Board of Directors identify and monitor risks that may affect multiple lines of business, and take appropriate action when business activities exceed the risk tolerance of the company.

Wholesale Banking, led by Perry Pelos, provides financial solutions to businesses across the United States and globally, with annual sales generally in excess of $5 million. It has nine major business lines, including: Business Banking, Middle Market Banking, Government and Institutional Banking, Corporate Banking, Commercial Real Estate, Financial Institutions Group, Wells Fargo Commercial Capital, Wells Fargo Securities, and Principal Investments. It also has groups in credit risk, operational risk and compliance, finance, marketing, human relations, and the Wholesale Chief Operating Office supporting its businesses.

The Wholesale Control (WC) organization serves as the front line risk management organization within the Wholesale Banking group of Wells Fargo supporting the Wholesale businesses with risk strategy, implementation, and execution. The Wholesale Control team is accountable to assess and effectively manage risks across all risk types and Wholesale businesses delivering an integrated view of risks, producing a sustainable control environment, and instilling a culture of strong risk management. The team is responsible to identify and assess risks, design and implement controls, and execute and monitor the controls to ensure they are working effectively to manage risk across Wholesale. Wholesale Control interfaces with Independent Risk Management and Audit to drive comprehensive and consistent implementation of regulatory and corporate risk policies and programs across Wholesale.

Wells Fargo Commercial Capital (WFCC) Business Control provides operational risk, regulatory risk, financial crimes and business risk management services through an optimized model which leverages centralized functions and agile business focused teams to support sound risk management for the Capital Finance, Commercial Distribution Finance, Corporate Trust Services, Equipment Finance, and International Trade Services lines of business. The Risk Management team enables efficient and effective execution of Corporate, Wholesale, and Line of Business programs, policies, and procedures to ensure alignment with the overarching risk management priorities of Wells Fargo while meeting the unique needs of each business.

This position will be the Wells Fargo Commercial Capital point of contact (i.e., Program Lead) to the Wholesale team responsible for the Front Line Self Assurance Program. This position will reside on the Commercial Capital Operational Risk Program team within the centralized Operational Risk Management team who are responsible for leading various Risk Program execution requirements on behalf of and with the business. This role and the activities performed by it will be highly connected to the work, status, and changes resulting from the Business Process Risk Management (BPRM) Program, and therefore, this role will report into the BPRM Program Manager.

Team members support our focus on building strong customer relationships balanced with a strong risk mitigating and compliance-driven culture which firmly establishes those disciplines as critical to the success of our customers and company. They are accountable for execution of all applicable risk programs (Credit, Market, Financial Crimes, Operational, Regulatory Compliance), which includes effectively following and adhering to applicable Wells Fargo policies and procedures, appropriately fulfilling risk and compliance obligations, timely and effective escalation and remediation of issues, and making sound risk decisions. There is emphasis on proactive monitoring, governance, risk identification and escalation, as well as making sound risk decisions commensurate with the business unit s risk appetite and all risk and compliance program requirements.



Required Qualifications

  • 6+ years of experience in compliance, operational risk management (includes audit, legal, credit risk, market risk, or the management of a process or business with accountability for compliance or operational risk), or a combination of both; or 6+ years of IT systems security, business process management or financial services industry experience, of which 3+ years must include direct experience in compliance, operational risk management, or a combination of both

Other Desired Qualifications

The position will assist team members in the execution of and response to business and WFCC Business Risk Manager Queries about the Front Line Self Assurance Program. In addition, this position will partner with other team members to connect this work to other risk management activities such as Business Process Risk Management, Key Indicator Program, and others, as and when needed. This integration is necessary to enable effective risk analysis and reporting.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Understand the requirements of assigned corporate Policies and Standards as they relate to the WFCC businesses.
  • Review and consult on new Policies and Procedures and on complex business issues subject to these requirements.
  • Ensure corporate Policies and Procedures for all business processes are properly implemented and documented per Wells Fargo requirements.
  • Lead FLSA Policy implementation projects across WFCC business.
  • Communicate policy/procedure and program developments to appropriate contacts.
  • Develop and deliver training and promote awareness of requirements and/or operational risks related to/derived from Front Line Self Assurance activities.
  • Investigate issues and provide appropriate reporting and escalation for risk management issues.
  • Work with business, Wholesale, and Enterprise teams to resolve incidents that arise within assigned FLSA Program responsibilities.
  • Maintain and monitor Key Risk Indicators (KRIs) and action plans as appropriate for Front Line Self Assurance.
  • Deliver WFCC-wide and WFCC LOB risk reporting.
  • Assist with other Operational Risk activities and projects as needed.
  • Experience in or supporting a Wholesale/Wells Fargo Commercial Capital (WFCC) business
  • Control identification, assessment, and monitoring skills.
  • Experience developing, planning, and executing risk assessment routines.
  • Ability to develop strong, effective, and efficient risk reduction solutions, inclusive of performance and risk indicators.
  • Ability to draw alignment across risk functions, business units, regions, and products to ensure comprehensive understanding of key risks.
  • Proven experience in building partnerships, collaborating and influencing at all levels and across lines of business and corporate partners.
  • Ability to manage conflict and provide credible challenge to the business on risk- and control-related items.
  • Demonstrate qualitative and quantitative problem solving skills.
